The
Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Five cards are dealt face down into players' hands. Two community
cards are dealt face up in the center of the table. Three face
down cards are also dealt in a row seperate from the community
cards so all players can see them. We recommend they be placed
perpendicular to the community cards to form a T shape. These
three cards are referred to as: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
(the first card dealt is "The Good", and so on)
First is a standard exchange round where players may exchange
one card from their hand.
Then the dealer turns up the first card in the row of face down
cards ("The Good"). Any card, including the community
cards, that matches the poker rank of this card is wild. It can
be any letter worth zero and the card's normal poker rank, or
any poker card with the card's normal letter and value, but not
both.
Next is a second exchange round where players may exchange one
card from their hand.
Then the dealer turns up the card next to "The Good".
This card is "The Bad". Any cards, including community
cards, that match the poker rank of this card have a letter value
of zero. The letter can still be used in the word and counts for
word length, but the letter value becomes zero.
Next is a third and final exchange round where players may exchange
one card from their hand.
Finally
the dealer turns up the last face down card. This card is "The
Ugly". Any cards in players' hands matching the poker rank
of this card are immediately discarded and replaced with a new
card dealt face down into their hand. If a community card matches
the poker rank of "The Ugly", it is also discarded and
replaced with a new face up card from the deck. If it is replaced
with the same rank poker card, that card is also discarded and
replaced.
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly ARE NOT COMMUNITY CARDS. They
are not to be used in players' hands.
